Zelda: Ocarina of Time Is Being Remade for Switch 2, Launching November 5
Nintendo's 40th anniversary Direct delivered a full remake, a Triforce-themed Switch 2 console and a live-action film date.
Nintendo marked The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary with a dedicated Direct on September 8, and the headline is exactly what fans hoped for. A remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
What Nintendo says is in it. The company’s announcement lists “completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, reworked camera and movement controls.” Engadget, which covered the reveal, described it as “Ocarina as you know it, complete with a stunning visual overhaul, much more environmental detail and modern additions like proper camera controls and a jump button.” Engadget also reported a quest log, faster item swapping, and an ocarina feature that lets players hum into the Switch 2 microphone instead of using button prompts. Z-targeting combat is kept.
Neither Nintendo’s announcement nor Engadget’s report gave a price for the game.
Anniversary hardware. A Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 launches October 29, a week before the game, alongside an anniversary Pro Controller and a carrying case with screen protector. All three carry a Triforce motif. Pricing for the hardware was not specified in Nintendo’s post.
More Zelda on the calendar. Nintendo’s post also lists:
- Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo in 2027, which unlock retro-style masks in the game.
- A Mineru’s Construct amiibo for Tears of the Kingdom on September 17, 2026.
- A global concert series in 2027 featuring music from the series.
- A live-action film titled The Legend of Zelda, opening worldwide April 30, 2027, from Nintendo, Arad Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Why it matters. Ocarina of Time is routinely cited among the most influential games ever made, and this is the first time Nintendo has fully rebuilt it rather than porting or lightly touching it up. Landing in early November also slots it squarely into the holiday window on Switch 2.
Pre-orders were listed as available on Nintendo’s official Direct page at the time of the reveal. We’ll follow up when reviews and the price picture arrive.
