Nintendo Direct: A New 2D Metroid, an Open-World Kirby and a Winter Full of Switch 2 Dates
Metroid Ravenous is set for January 28, and Kirby and the World Beyond is a spring 2027 target, plus dozens of other dated games.
One day after the Zelda anniversary presentation, Nintendo held its standard September Direct on the 9th, roughly 45 minutes focused on Switch 2 games arriving this winter and beyond. Game Informer compiled the full list. These are the biggest items.
Metroid Ravenous. A new Metroid is set for Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Game Informer describes it as a 2D entry that is seemingly a follow-up to Metroid Dread. That “seemingly” is the outlet’s read of the footage, not a Nintendo statement, so treat the link to Dread as an inference until Nintendo says more.
Kirby and the World Beyond. Listed for spring 2027 on Switch 2, it is described as a new 3D open-world adventure centered on Kirby’s copy ability.
Dated Nintendo releases.
- Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy: November 12, 2026, with voice commands and a new Dandori Academy mode.
- Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Definitive Edition: February 25, 2027, with Expansion Pass content and a new Calamity Mode difficulty.
- Professor Layton and the New World of Steam: December 10, 2026 on Switch 2 and Switch, set in the American town of Steam Bison, “plagued by mysterious incidents.”
- Mario Kart World received an update on September 9 adding 10 Super Mario Kart tracks and two new Knockout Tour routes.
- Star Fox gets an update on September 29 with local splitscreen, four-player online multiplayer and three new stages.
Third-party highlights. Game Informer’s roundup also lists Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, RE3 and RE4 Gold Edition arriving digitally on Switch 2 on October 16; Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on October 22 digitally; Danganronpa 2x2 on January 14, 2027; and Persona 6 newly confirmed for Switch 2 with no date. Persona 4 Revival is listed for Switch 2 on May 20, 2027, per Game Informer’s list.
The takeaway. The Direct leaned hard on the back half of the year and early 2027, filling out the Switch 2 calendar with a mix of first-party sequels, upgraded editions and big third-party ports. Nintendo’s own dated slate now stretches from the Zelda remake in November through Metroid in January and Kirby in spring.
Dates are as reported by Game Informer at time of publication; Nintendo may adjust listings as launches approach.
