Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 turned up at Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show broadcast on September 17 with a fresh campaign trailer, and the date on the calendar is now roughly five weeks away. The game launches October 23, 2026.

What Xbox showed. Xbox Wire’s recap of the show lists Modern Warfare 4 among its dated titles, on Xbox, with the new campaign trailer part of a broadcast Xbox described as featuring “17 fresh gameplay reveals, announcements, a surprise release, and a world premiere.”

What Activision has said about the game. Per Activision’s own announcement page as reflected in search listings we reviewed, the campaign centers on a rapidly escalating conflict on the Korean Peninsula. Players step into the role of Private Park, a young South Korean soldier, while Captain Price operates outside official channels. The game was formally revealed on May 28.

Platforms and early access. Modern Warfare 4 is listed for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who pre-order can start the campaign early on October 16, a week before launch, according to the same listings.

The beta. Wikipedia’s entry on the game records an early-access beta from August 21 and an open beta from August 28, both ending September 1, so the multiplayer test period is already over.

What we can’t tell you. We did not retrieve details on final multiplayer maps, modes, pricing tiers or post-launch content plans, so we are leaving those out rather than filling the gap. Any pre-launch talk about how the game will be monetized or what Zombies will look like beyond official announcements should be treated as rumor until Activision confirms it.

Why it matters. With Halo now moving under Activision’s umbrella (see our separate report on Xbox’s reorganization), Call of Duty remains the franchise anchoring the company’s fall. Switch 2 is among the listed platforms, extending the series to Nintendo’s newest hardware.

We will have a full impressions post once the campaign is playable ahead of launch.
