Rockstar Confirms Network Intrusion Behind GTA 6 Leak
Rockstar says an unauthorized third party accessed its systems and leaked roughly 90 early development videos of GTA 6.
Rockstar Games has confirmed the source of the latest GTA 6 leak: a network intrusion. The company says an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from its systems, resulting in the leak of roughly 90 videos showing early development footage of the game.
This isn’t speculation pieced together from anonymous forum posts — it’s Rockstar’s own account of what happened. The studio confirmed the intrusion directly, putting a name to what fans had already been circulating clips of across social media and video platforms in the days prior.
Rockstar’s statement was notably candid about the toll this took internally, calling the leak “heartbreaking for our team” and adding that it was “obviously not how we intended you to see the game after all this time.” The company also apologized for how long GTA 6 has taken to arrive.
Importantly, Rockstar drew a clear line around what the breach did and didn’t touch. The company said it does not anticipate any impact on ongoing live services — meaning GTA Online should continue operating as normal — nor does it expect any effect on the GTA 6 development timeline itself. The game remains on track.
Rockstar closed its statement with a direct ask of fans: wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19. That release date, for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S, is unchanged.
Expect more detail as Rockstar’s investigation into the intrusion continues.
