Gears of War: E-Day Goes Gold: Preload September 29, Launch October 6
Xbox confirms the shooter is finished, with early access for Premium buyers starting October 1 and a Steam release alongside Xbox and PC.
Gears of War: E-Day has gone gold. The Coalition and Xbox confirmed the milestone on September 17, with the full launch set for October 6.
The schedule. Per Xbox Wire, all times are 8am PT:
- Pre-install: September 29.
- Early access (Premium Edition only): October 1.
- Full launch: October 6.
Where you can play. E-Day launches on Xbox Series X|S, PC through the Xbox app, and Steam. It is available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Price. The Standard Edition is $69.99 and the Premium Edition is $99.99.
What the studio said. Studio head Mike Crump said: “Reaching gold is an important milestone for the studio. More importantly, it means we’re one step closer to players experiencing Emergence Day for themselves.”
What you are getting. The game is set on Emergence Day, following young COG veterans Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. It is built on Unreal Engine 5 and includes a campaign, Horde Siege (PvE) and Versus (PvP). Co-op supports up to four players online and two-player split-screen, and the team is targeting 4K at 60 frames per second, according to Xbox Wire.
PC requirements. Xbox published a full PC specifications chart alongside the announcement, but it is an image rather than text, so check the Xbox Wire post for exact CPU, GPU and memory numbers before you buy.
What is not confirmed. Xbox has not, in what we reviewed, detailed a post-launch content roadmap. Review scores were not available at the time of writing, and we will not speculate on them.
Bottom line. For a game that has been in the pipeline for years, the countdown is now short: pre-install starts September 29, Premium early access begins October 1, and everyone else is in on October 6.
