Fortnite Override Season: Kingdom Hearts Arrives With the v42.20 Update
Chapter 7 Season 4 is a month old, and its September 17 patch adds Sora, a Kingdom Key Mythic and more video game guests.
Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4, Override, launched on August 20, as Epic announced on August 5, per Vice. Its tagline is “Break the Rules, Change the Game,” and the season leans on video game crossovers. A month in, the v42.20 update is the biggest September beat.
Kingdom Hearts. The headline of v42.20, released Thursday, September 17, is Fortnite’s first Kingdom Hearts crossover. Vice reports Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas arrive as Item Shop outfits alongside a Kingdom Key Mythic weapon and themed Island changes. Epic’s patch notes describe the Kingdom Key as unleashing “a flurry of melee combos and call down a shocking bolt on your opponents,” with special Power Hours starting September 19 and Sea Salt Ice Cream healing items.
More gear. Epic’s notes also list:
- Rebecca’s Guns: a dual-wielded assault rifle and SMG combo with an exotic variant.
- Refreshed Loot Hacks, including the Hyperburst Pistol, Mammoth Pistol, Reaper Sniper Rifle and Deadeye DMR.
- Six new Match Overrides: Recovery, Level Up, Dynamic Storm, Super Shot, Big Boom and Healing Overdrive, with Suppressing Fire and Health Siphon due September 24.
- New Sprites, including a community-designed Pond Sprite and a Crash Bandicoot Sprite, with a Birthday Sprite on September 26.
Other guests. Vice lists PAC-MAN cosmetics and an Ironmouse Icon Series set on September 18. It also lists a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Lucy skin and Persona content, both with release timing still to be determined.
Earlier in September. The previous update, v42.10, added the unvaulted Sweeper Shotgun, new Loot Hacks and Match Overrides including Big Heads and Prop Hunt, per Epic’s notes, with Power Hours on September 5.
Rumors, labeled. Vice’s rundown mentions a possible Five Nights at Freddy’s teaser for Fortnitemares 2026 and a possible Halloween-themed point of interest. Both are unconfirmed dataminer speculation. Some outlets have also pegged the next update at October 1, but we could not verify that with Epic, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Bottom line. Override is delivering on its gaming-legends promise. The next confirmed dates are the September 24 and 26 drops listed in Epic’s notes.
