Cyberpunk 2077 is not going quiet. In its first-half 2026 update, published September 2, CD Projekt Red said the game has crossed 40 million copies sold. The Phantom Liberty expansion, which arrived alongside the major 2.0 overhaul in 2023, has passed 15 million copies in under three years, according to the same release.

Still selling. On the H1 earnings call, per an Investing.com transcript, management said: “Nearly six years after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, it has sold over 40 million copies and continues to sell well.” The company describes the franchise as evergreen, with platform expansion and continued updates.

More Cyberpunk on the way. CDPR’s release lists two franchise pushes:

  • Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 launches on Netflix on October 20, 2026.
  • Cross-promotions with Wuthering Waves and Apex Legends.

Cyberpunk is also showing up in Fortnite. Vice reported that the v42.20 update includes a Lucy skin tied to Edgerunners, though its release timing was listed as to be determined.

The sequel. This is where the official record is thin. The follow-up is now referred to as Cyberpunk 2; it was previously codenamed Project Orion. On the earnings call, the CFO said: “Over the last 3 months, we expanded the Cyberpunk 2 team to 184 developers to support the game’s current development phase,” according to the transcript.

That is essentially the extent of it. In the materials we reviewed, CDPR has not announced a release date, a platform list or gameplay for Cyberpunk 2, and its own H1 earnings page did not mention the sequel at all. In earlier announcements, the studio said the project is being built by its North American teams, with a new studio in Boston and a presence in Vancouver.

A note on rumors. You may see release-year claims for Cyberpunk 2 floating around, including a 2030 target. Those come from unofficial reporting, not from CD Projekt, and we are not treating them as fact.

Bottom line. The original game is a proven long-term seller, more Night City content is coming via Netflix, and the sequel’s team is growing. Everything beyond that is unannounced.
