Three years after launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still finding ways to make headlines, and September is a busy month for it.

19 new mods for console players. TheGamer reported on September 15 that Larian has approved 19 new pieces of mod-based content for the Xbox and PlayStation versions. Highlights from the report include two new homebrew classes, the Conjurer (five subclasses) and the Pugilist (six subclasses), plus a new Warlock subclass called The Frozen Shadow. There is also a recruitable goblin companion, Sazza, and a safeguard that keeps Minthara knocked out. Lae’zel gets a frog Wild Shape, and the batch adds 30 new Wild Magic effects and expanded poison mechanics. On the cosmetic side: 34 new eye colors, seven hairstyles, character tattoos and photo mode animations.

Where the game itself stands. Patch 8 in April 2025 was billed as Larian’s final major update. But the studio isn’t entirely done: PCGamesN reported that on February 16, 2026 a surprise patch arrived to fix save-loading crashes and problems progressing from Act 2 into Act 3, with corrupted saves restored. PCGamesN quotes the patch messaging as “Bet you thought you’d seen the last of these.” In short: no new major content patches from Larian itself, but bug fixes still appear and the mod pipeline keeps feeding console players.

The Astarion novel. Baldur’s Gate 3: Astarion, by T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon), is published by Random House Worlds on September 29, 2026. Penguin Random House lists it as a $30 hardcover of 272 pages, plus ebook and a roughly ten-hour audiobook narrated by Neil Newbon, the actor who voices Astarion in the game. The story is a prequel set during Astarion’s servitude to the vampire lord Cazador Szarr, and follows his alliance with an Aasimar paladin named Hahn den Suriel as they pursue “the blood of a dead god buried deep beneath Baldur’s Gate,” per the publisher’s description.

What we did not find. We found no official announcement of a new Baldur’s Gate 3 content patch from Larian for the fall, and we are not treating any speculation about one as fact.

Bottom line. The core game is finished and stable, the community is extending it, and the lore is expanding in print. For console players who have waited on mod support, this batch is the biggest reason to reinstall this month.
