Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is a little over a week from launch. Bandai Namco’s official overview confirms the standard release date as October 2, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.

Early access. Owners of the Deluxe Edition, Joker Flight Pack and Premium Joker Flight Pack get three days of early access beginning September 29, 2026.

The story. Players take the role of REX, an unknown pilot who inherits the “Wings of Theve” identity after ace Jan Cope dies in a crash. The narrative is set in Strangereal, where the FCU battles Sotoan invaders following the Lighthouse War. REX leads Joker Flight squadron to restore military morale and reclaim their nation.

What’s new in the cockpit. According to Bandai Namco:

  • A first-person perspective option, new to the series.
  • A proprietary “Cloudly weather system” for dynamic multi-layered cloudscapes.
  • Chain destruction mechanics that trigger cascading explosions.
  • The wing command system returning from Ace Combat 5.

Multiplayer. Bandai Namco bills it as “the largest multiplayer mode ever included in an ACE COMBAT game,” with 100-player lobbies, co-op PvE, PvP and PvPvE missions, and full cross-platform play.

Editions and pricing. The Standard Edition is listed at 69.99 euros. All pre-orders include a digital copy of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, plus the F-14A aircraft. The Deluxe Edition adds cosmetics and the Premium ACE Pass Plus alongside the early access. The Joker Flight Pack and Premium Joker Flight Pack are PC-only physical-extra bundles that include a vinyl soundtrack and artbook, with the premium tier adding an LED mousepad and military patch. Bandai Namco’s page did not list a US dollar price in the material we reviewed.

Where it fits. Wings of Theve is the ninth numbered entry in the series and follows Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

Note that Switch 2 is not among the announced platforms on this page. We will have impressions when the early-access window opens.
